dvotn (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you register, we collect your name, email address, date of birth, and optionally your phone number. We use this information to create and manage your account.
Profile Information
You may provide additional information such as a headline, description, gender identity, sexuality, pronouns, relationship preferences, and profile photos. This information is displayed to other users of the app.
Location
With your permission, we collect your approximate geographic location to show you nearby users and calculate distance. We store coordinates as a GeoJSON point on your profile. You can update or remove your location at any time in Settings.
Usage Data
We collect information about how you use the app, including interactions such as likes, matches, messages, and discovery sessions. This data is used to operate core features.
Device & Log Data
We may collect device type, operating system, IP address, and app usage logs for debugging, security, and abuse prevention purposes.
Communications
Messages you send through the app are stored to deliver them to recipients. We do not read your private messages except as required to investigate reports of abuse.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Operate and improve the dvotn service
- Match you with other users based on your preferences
- Send transactional emails (email confirmation, password reset, match notifications)
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Profile Visibility
Your profile information (headline, description, photos, general location) is visible to other authenticated dvotn users. Your exact coordinates are never shared — only an approximate distance is shown to other users.
Your email address, phone number, date of birth, and discovery preferences are never visible to other users.
4. Data Storage
Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. Profile photos are stored in object storage (S3-compatible). We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and hashed passwords.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile is marked as deleted and removed from discovery. We may retain anonymized usage data for analytics purposes.
6. Third-Party Services
dvotn uses the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Twilio — SMS verification (phone number only)
- Google / Apple — Optional social sign-in (subject to their respective privacy policies)
- LiveKit — Real-time voice and video calls (audio/video streams during a call only)
- hCaptcha — Bot prevention on registration (web only)
- RevenueCat / Stripe — Subscription billing (payment details are handled directly by these providers; we do not store card numbers)
7. Children’s Privacy
dvotn is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent for optional data processing (e.g. location)

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
